One big issue was slaver and we know how that turned out. As for it being outdated I would say it is to the extent that our founding fathers never expected lawyers to twist it the way they have. If we wrote a new one I would want it based on our founding principals and written in such a way to stave off the lawyers for a few hundred years. The constitution is fine, the lawyers are the problem is the lawyers.
